Chittor, July 04: A love-sick youngster burnt alive a minor girl for refusing his proposal at Appayyagaripalli Harijanawada in Talambedu village, Chittoor rural mandal on Friday.
Satish (19), a construction worker, had been pestering U Shakila (14) to marry him for the past three months. Police said he had been stalking her wherever she went, either in the village or in Chittoor. The girl would go everyday to Chittoor for her school along with her father Yuvraj, a dailywage labourer. Satish tried to kidnap her in Chittoor six weeks ago but she managed to escape and complained to her father who gave him a sound thrashing.
According to Taluka SI Subbaiah, the youngster, in a pre-meditated move, went to Shakila’s house around 9 p.m. after her parents had gone out to attend a marriage.
Shakila’s sister Chinni (9) opened the door and on seeing him, ran to her aunt’s house. “We suspect he carried two bottles of kerosene,” the inspector said. Chinni returned with her aunt after a while only to find Shakila screaming for help amidst flames. She died before they could put out the fire. Satish, meanwhile, escaped.
