Hyderabad, November 13: The opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) today demanded that the police should arrest chief minister K Rosaiah and several ministers and MLAs who staged a dharna at Basheerbagh, where section 144 prohibited dharnas.
Staging protests at Basheerbagh was prohibited due to its proximity to the Assembly and Secretariat, TDP MLA M Linga Reddy said in a press release today.
“How can lawmakers themselves violate rules? Cases should be registered against the chief minister and others and they should be arrested,” Linga Reddy demanded.
Congress activists had staged a dharna at Basheerbagh protesting against the critical remarks made by RSS leaders against AICC president Sonia Gandhi. Rosaiah was unable to personally console the victims of the recent rains, but he could stage a dharna to get the mercy of AICC president Sonia Gandhi, Reddy alleged.
The chief minister participating in a dharna brought bad reputation to the state, he added.
Meanwhile, in another press release, TDP general secretary Varla Ramaiah alleged that Rosaiah participated in the dharna only to safeguard and renew his post.
The Chief Minister had repeatedly requested people not to stage protests and cause inconvenience to others but he himself violated that, Ramaiah said.
He added that if RSS leaders made any objectionable remarks against Sonia, the ruling party could take action as per the law.
But why was it necessary for the chief minister to stage a dharna, he wondered.
