Stage set for Group-I exams from today

Hyderabad, September 25: Despite an almost total shutdown in the entire Telangana region due to the Sakala Janula Samme, the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission has finalised its preparations to hold the Group-I (Mains) examination from September 25 to October 3.

The examination will be conducted in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Warangal and Tirupati from 10 am to 1 pm. Elaborate security arrangements are being made at 12 centres in Hyderabad and also at Warangal centre for the examination.

Meanwhile, the State Human Rights Commission on Saturday refused to grant stay on Group I exams on the grounds that they do not fall under its purview. After the state High Court rejected their appeal to postpone the Group I main examination, the aspirants approached the State Human Rights Commission seeking to defer examination at least for 45 days citing Telangana agitation in the region. However, the HRC stated that the administrative decision of APPSC do not come under their jurisdiction and rejected their appeal for deferring the exams.

The Group-I aspirants also approached Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana to prevail upon Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to postpone the examination. Botsa assured the aspirants that he would try to convince the Chief Minister for the same.

Meanwhile, Infrastructure Minsiter Komatreddi Venkatreddy and AICC Secretary P Sudhakar Reddy too demanded that the exams be postponed. They said nearly 5,000 students from the Telangana region would not able to participate in the exam due to the on-going general strike.
