ST driver and a passenger killed in accident near Malegaon

Yavatmal, April 18: Two persons were killed and 19 others sustained injuries when a Nanded-bound ST bus carrying devotees returning from Mahakali yatra dashed a tree near Rashtriya Vidyalaya in Maregaon on Chandrapur-Yavatmal road.

The bus was hit so badly that its roof had to be cut to rescue the passengers.

Police said that the driver lost control while trying to save a school-boy on a bicycle.

The driver, Shreekant Joshi (45), a resident of Nanded, and one of the passengers – Prallhad Haribhau Pawar (36), a resident of village Karanji of Pandharkawda tehsil, died on the spot.

Among the injured, the condition of two women, namely, Geeta Bhongale (26), a resident of Chandrapur and Padminibai Waghmare (50), a resident of Kandhar in Nanded, is serious.

All the injured passengers were rushed to the Govt Rural hospital in Maregaon and later those in serious condition were shifted to District Hospital at Chandrapur.
