SSC exams likely to be postponed

Hyderabad, December 24: SSC examinations are not likely to be held in March this year. They may well be postponed to April given the pressure mounting on the Various private schools from the state, especially those in Andhra and Rayalaseema regions are asking for postponement of the SSC 2010 exams.

The department of school education has received hundreds of requests from various schools in the past one week due to the crisis in the state.

“The schools have been missing classes for the past fortnight because of frequent bandhs. Half-yearly examinations were postponed to January in some schools. In these circumstances if the exams are held in March many students from Andhra and Ralayaseema would lose out,” said M Rajesh Kumar from recognised schools association, Hyderabad. The association has already given a representation to the department of school education seeking postponement of SSC exams.

“We are contemplating changing dates but it will delay the next academic year (2010-11). This should not happen,” said an official from directorate of government examinations. The board is trying its best not to postpone the examinations beyond March. “We are trying to avoid a postponement,” said Suresh Chanda, principal secretary, secondary education, while adding that a final decision on this would be taken only in a week’s time.

The pressure on SSC board has increased after the BIE decided to postpone its exams by two weeks.
