Hyderabad: Former minister and MLA Etala Rajender today said the State government has decided to irrigate 14.40 lakh acres under SRSP project.
He was addressing a review meeting on SRSP rejuvenation works at Jalasaudha here. The meeting focused on Rabi cultivation and water requirements, and second phase of canal works and progress. Rajender said not more than five lakh acres were irrigated under previous government and now the present government wants to bring under irrigation 14.40 lakh acres. He asked the officials to complete the works of the SRSP on a war-footing. Rajender said that there was a need to strengthen the distribution canals to ensure speeding up the works.
“We have to fill up lakes and ponds in the villages as directed by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and ensure increase of groundwater table and fish production”. Rajender said funds have to be used by June and more funds will be released by the government for the projects. He also assured of giving waters to crops during summer season and tail end lands. Waters will be given to Rabi crops from Feb 10 he added.
