Jammu/Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital Srinagar recorded the hottest day of the season on Wednesday, but winter capital Jammu got a respite as the maximum temperature dropped a few notches, the met department said.
“Srinagar recorded 32.4 degrees Celsius as the day’s maximum temperature which was 0.4 degrees higher than yesterday (Tuesday). Wednesday has, therefore, been the hottest day of this summer so far in Srinagar,” a Met department official told IANS.
The maximum temperature in Jammu was 37.4 degrees Celsius as against 42.2 degrees on Tuesday.
“People in Jammu got some respite from heat wave as the day’s maximum fell by five degrees over yesterday,” the official said.
Weather office has forecast rain and thunder showers at isolated places acro ss Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
Summer heat has been an addition to the testing times local Muslims are facing in the Valley during the ongoing holy month of Ramadan where they observe a daily fast.
“It is not the long period of hunger that tires you more during the month of Ramadan as is the thirst which becomes more severe because of the heat during summers,” said Bashir Ahmad, 64, a resident of Ganderbal.
