Hyderabad, April 24: The chairman of the committee on the Telangana question, Justice B S Srikrishna on Friday said that while the panel would take a hard look at facts and figures relating to the status of Telangana within the Andhra Pradesh state, the sentiments of the people would also be considered.
Answering a spate of queries at a media conference here, Justice Srikrishna went on record to say that sentiments would indeed be considered as they stem from historical and political reasons. ‘‘Sentiments will not emerge from nowhere, they have a historical and political background,’’ he said.
Drawing a parallel, Justice Srikrishna said if a person complained of high temperature, one would have to investigate the reasons for it and accordingly administer a medicine. The case was no different with the sentiments of the people, he observed.
Justice Srikrishna’s observations on the sentiment factor in the Telangana debate assume significance as there have been arguments from a section of the people that bifurcation of the state should not be influenced by emotional factors. Votaries against sentiment argue that only facts, figures and factual data should be examined to judge the question whether or not Telangana has been discriminated against within Samiakya Andhra.
However, Justice Srikrishna did not elaborate further on the matter.
