Srikakulam can’t be treated as laboratory: Chiranjeevi

Srikakulam, September 14: The Praja Rajyam party (PRP) president, Mr K. Chiranjeevi, has commented that the Srikakulam district could not be treated by the State government as a laboratory to do all kinds of experiments.

The actor-turned-politician started his “Praja Chaitanya Yatra” in the district from Ichapuram on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Chiranjeevi said that the government was trying to set up all kinds of pollution-causing industries in the district. While these projects promise to give crores of rupees to the rich, on the other hand, they were spreading pollution for the common people, he said and lamented that the government was snatching the lands of the poor to feed the rich.

The PRP chief said that the aim of his “Praja Chaitanya Yatra” was to bring awareness among the people about the problems they were facing and their rights. He also called upon people to oppose all projects that would do no good to them and instead cause pollution and other hazards to their health. The people should know their rights and assert them, he added. “The government will not give you anything on its own. We must fight to get them. I am with you in your fight”, he
declared amidst wild applause.

Excoriating the Congress, Mr Chiranjeevi said that ruling the party which came to power by making tall promises had done nothing for the people. Instead of attending to the problems of the people, he said, the party leaders were engrossed in their own internal power squabbles. “Let them fight. We are not interested in their fights or quarrels. Let them do what they promised to do at the time of elections. Let us demand and get our rights”, he told the large crowd that gathered to listen to him.
