Sri Lankan cricketer Gunathilaka suspended for 6 months

London: Opening batsman Danushka Gunathilaka has been suspended for six international matches by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) for breaching the player code of conduct and contractual obligation.

As per ESPNcricinfo.com, the decision was taken following an initial inquiry conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket after the team management reported that the player has violated the ”code of conduct.’

SLC, reportedly, attributed the six-match suspension to two code violations.
The ban for first three matches is for his latest violation of the player code of conduct and contractual obligations that he entered with the Sri Lankan board.
The other three-match ban is handed over for an earlier suspension sentence of one year which he is serving since last October for breaching the ‘player contract’.
The issue of misconduct is a regular affair with the right-hand batsman.

Earlier, International Cricket Council (ICC) had admonished the Sri Lankan player for breaching level 1 of the ICC code of conduct by giving Bangladeshi player Tamim Iqbal a send-off while he was on his way to the dressing room.

The incident happened in January during the final match of the T20I tri-series against Bangladesh.

In 2017, the batsman was suspended for six one-day matches following a display of poor attitude towards training in a series against India.
