Colombo: In a bid to promote Sri Lanka as a tourist destination, 50 Chinese couple tied the knot at a mass ceremony to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
According to the local media reports, the ceremony on Sunday was attended by the politicians and diplomats from both the countries in Colombo.
Sri Lankan Minister Champika Ranawaka said, “I want to thank these young couples for choosing Sri Lanka as the destination to have one of the most important events of their lives. No one can provide you with a scenic as well as romantic destination that captures the rich cultural diversity of a country quite like Sri Lanka.”
The ‘Royal Wedding Ceremony’ was performed as per traditional Sri Lankan customs with the beating of Magul Bera, ‘Jayamangala Gatha’ and also the exchanging of rings.
A number of Chinese nationals attended the wedding ceremony as well. (ANI)
