Ranchi (Jharkhand): Punjab and Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy registered emphatic victories on Day Three of the 8th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship 2018 (A Division) here at the Astro Turf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi on Saturday.
In the first match of the day, Gurjit Kaur (10′, 50′) and Pinki (19′, 42′) starred in Punjab’s 7-0 win against The Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd. The duo scored two goals each while Anu Bala (5′), Navpreet Kaur (6′), Pooja Rani (13′) scored a goal each in the team’s outstanding victory.
Odisha beat Him 3-0 to stay in contention for the knockouts. It was Mariana Kujur’s double goals in 18th and 33rd minute and Dipti Lakra’s 44th minute goal that helped them seal the match and the winning points to advance.
Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy overcame a 2-2 draw on the opening day against Gangpur-Odisha with a convincing 11-2 win against Rajasthan today.
Indian national team forward Preeti Dubey (3′, 12′, 40′, 55′) starred for the winning team with four stunning goals while Karishma Singh (16′, 45′, 52′) scored thrice, Jyoti Pal (2′, 24′) scored twice and Sarita Bramhachariyum (47′), Anjali Gautam (54′) scored a goal each in Madhya Pradesh’s win. For Rajasthan, Raju Ranwa (23′) and Nivedita Chakravarty (60′) were the goal scorers.
In the last match of the day, Jharkhand beat Coorg 9-0. Double goals by Sangita Kumari (3′, 49′), Birajini Ekka (11′, 51′), Deepika Soreng (16′, 28′), Nilprojita Majhi (18′, 32′) and a goal by Kanti Pradhan (53′) helped them secure a splendid victory. (ANI)
