Chennai, April 07: The Madras High Court today dismissed bail petition of four persons, arrested after intensified action against the sale of expiry date drugs in the state.
Principle Session Judge P Devados dismissed the bail applications of Manikam (brother of Meenakshi Sundram, the prime accused involved in the sale of expiry date drugs), Rajesh, Sunitha Rani and Jagathambal.
Sale of spurious drugs came to light when Drug Control of Authority (DCA) officials seized several thousands of fake cough syrup bottles, manufactured under the label of a leading company, from a godown in Cuddalore District recently.
Later, officials intensified action and raided major medical godowns and shops in Chennai, seized expired drugs worth several lakhs of from Meena Healthcare and sealed the company. Drugs worth Rs one crore were recovered from a godown here.
