Sporting Clube seeks no relegation this time

Howrah (WB), May 28: Facing relegation from the the I-League, Sporting Clube de Goa coach Vishwas Gaonkar today appealed to the AIFF to do away with the rule this season as there would be one less team from next time.

He said the national federation should consider retaining both Sporting Clube de Goa and Shillong Lajong in the top-most league for the betterment of Indian football.

Asked whether they would appeal to the AIFF, he said, “Instead of we appealing, they should consider of retaining us (Sporting Clube and Lajong).

“As it is, they (AIFF) were considering of making it a 16-team tournament from next season…but with Mahindra United not there, they should consider this.”

Highlighting their performance, Gaonkar said, “We have not done badly barring the first phase where we managed only five points. But in the second phase we have logged 22 points.
