Spl powers to Guv: TRS MPs disrupts LS

TRS members disrupted Lok Sabha and even forced an adjournment on Monday protesting against a Union home ministry directive that gives the governor special powers to ensure law and order in Hyderabad. Home Minister Rajnath Singh rejected the charges of being bossy and denied violation of Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act.

Uproar was created by the TRS members as soon as the House met for the day, forcing a 10 minute adjournment.
The issue was raised by the TRS member AP Jithendar Reddy during zero hour saying Telangana was suffering from an “emergency-like” situation.

Reddy was supported by his party colleagues as AIMIM member Asaduddin Owaisi threatened to storm the well, dubbing the central move as “unconstitutional“.

The home minister elucidated that the central directive was as per Section 8 of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act which gives special responsibility to the governor to protect life, property and liberty of those living in common capital of Hyderabad.

It was the responsibility of the governor to ensure law and order, internal security and security of vital institutions, Singh said.

Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act provides that the governor will talk to the council of ministers of Telangana and exercise his judgment while taking any action said the home minister adding that the Centre had only issued an advisory and had not violated the Act in any manner.

Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the House for lunch, Seeing that agitated Telangana Rashtra Samiti’s members were planning to interrupt proceeding.
