SPF chief asks media to advocate for truth

Special Protection Force Inspector General PV Sunil Kumar asked the media to advocate the cause of truth, the weak and the most vulnerable in the society.

Addressing a communication and journalism award ceremony at Amruthavani Communications Centre here on Thursday, Sunil Kumar called upon the young journalists to focus on bringing out the truth rather than the private lives of people of fame and business interests. He spoke of the importance of media in the lives of people saying that there are 7,000 news papers in the world and 1400 news channels in India.

Sunil Kumar felt that media was the medium to reach masses and for empowerment of the poor, weak and the marginalised.

Later, Sunil Kumar also released the house journal AIMC Mirror prepared by the students on the occasion. Archbishop Thumma Bala who is also the Chairman of Amruthavani Communications Centre presided over the award ceremony and said that only seekers of truth will be good journalists and a social responsibility on journalists is more than others. He also said that news papers would have more credibility, when self discipline is imposed by themselves in regards to following values in reporting.

Fr Udumala Balashowry, the Dean of Diploma in Communication and Journalism Course and the Director of Amruthavani and others also spoke.
