Spending On War Vs. Spending On Peace

Samantha Joan Nutt, a medical doctor and the founder of the renowned humanitarian organizations War Child Canada and War Child USA, she has worked with children and their families at the frontline of many of the world’s major crises – from Iraq to Afghanistan, Somalia to the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Sierra Leone to Darfur, Sudan.

Her work on behalf of war-affected communities around the world has been widely recognized. In 2011, she was made a Member of the Order of Canada “for her contributions to improving the plight of young people in the world’s worst conflict zones, notably as a founder of War Child Canada.” She was named one of “Canada’s Top 40 under 40” award from The Globe and Mail. Time magazine called her one of “Canada’s Five Leading Activists”.

She made a report on the consequences of War and stated that “Most of the people who are dying in war are living in poor countries and most of the people who are profiting from the war are living are living in rich countries.”

She further added that “There are generations around the world who are being lost to war, it is possible to disrupt that cycle of violence with investments in education, in strengthing the rule of law and in economic development especially for women.”
