Lucknow: At least ten people were killed in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad district when a speeding truck lost control and mowed down members of a marriage procession, police said.
The accident occurred at Kotla road as the driver lost control of the truck and first rammed into a pavement killing one, and then mowed down members of the procession, the police said.
At least half a dozen people sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Sarojini Naidu Medical College in Agra, a police official told IANS.
The killed people were among those passing by the road at the moment, band players and members of the marriage procession.
As many as three people, Karua, Krishna and Vakeel, have been identified so far.
“Efforts are underway to identify others too,” an official said, adding that their first priority was transferring the injured to hospital.
