Jagran, March 25: In an accident on Wednesday, a father-son duo died after their motorcycle was hit by a speeding truck.
The accident took place after midnight, when the victims were crossing the Garcha Turn at Daria village, the police said.
Attar Singh (45) and Pawan Kumar (23), who lived in Vikas Nagar Colony, Mauli Jagran, were going home from Sector 22, when the incident took place.
After hitting the motorcycle from behind, the truck dragged the victims to some distance, the police said.
The victims, who were seriously injured, were rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
The truck driver fled, leaving the truck behind, the police said. A case under Sections 279 and 304 A of the Indian Penal Code has been registered in the Industrial Area police station.
Family shattered At the victims’ house, heart-rending scenes were witnessed. Only four months ago, Pawan had got married to Rekha. According to relatives, she did not speak a word since she learnt about the incident.
Pawan’s mother Asha was inconsolable and kept saying that God had been unkind to her by taking away both her husband and son.
Pawan’s elder brother had died a few years ago, a relative said.
“The family had almost overcome the loss of their elder child, and this happened. Pawan had bought the motorcycle only three weeks ago,” Ravinder, a relative, said. “Last evening, he returned from the factory where he worked and decided to go with his father to work in Sector 22 for a catering agency.
From Sector 22, the two left for home around 12.30 am.
Mehar, a relative and neighbour who worked with the same catering agency, said he had asked Attar Singh to stay back and leave with him in the morning. But he reportedly did not listen and said he wanted to go home with his son.
