Mumbai, March 04: A speeding Indigo hit an 18-year-old cyclist, dragging him for more than 20 feet near the Juhu police station. At 1 am, Niranjan Shetty (33), an executive with a private insurance firm, was speeding from SV Road towards Juhu beach and hit cyclist Pandachedi Paswan, the police said.
Though Paswan, a waiter at a roadside Chinese food stall at Juhu, was dragged for more than 20 feet behind the car, Shetty refused to stop. In fact, Shetty also hit an autorickshaw, injuring the driver, the police said.
“It seems that the accused was drunk, but we are awaiting the medical report,” said Senior Police Inspector Deepak Kathkade of the Juhu police station. Seeing angry passersby running towards his car, Shetty got scared and fled on foot leaving the Indigo behind, said Kathkade.
The passersby dislodged Paswan and rushed him and the autorickshaw driver to nearby R.N. Cooper Hospital. Paswan was declared dead before admission, the police said. The autorickshaw driver is being treated for head and shoulder injuries.
Paswan, who had migrated to the city from his hometown in Bihar four months ago, was living in a shanty at Nehru Nagar, Juhu.
