Speed thrills but kills

Speed thrills but kills is the slogan rightly given by the Traffic Police Department. It is very sad to note that many youngsters die or receive multiple injuries in fatal road accidents, forcing several people of productive age group either dead or disabled permanently. The number is growing year after year in multiple proportions. The main reason behind this is overspeed. Many teenagers find it fun to race around on the streets for mere fun failing to see the lives they risk on their way. They not only risk their own lives but also put others at risk. Each year, thousands of thrill seekers give away their lives in road accidents.

A tremendous increase in the volume of road users and careless driving are some of the other major reasons for the increase in fatalities in road crashes. According to sources 22 lakh vehicles run on the road daily in the city and 60-70 new vehicles increase every year. Recently Andhra Pradesh government issued permit to 20000 new auto rickshaws. During January and February 2014, 47 people lost their lives in road accidents while 405 suffered injuries. Cell phones are also the biggest distractions while driving.

City residents are appealed to dial 9010203626 for redressal of any grievance related to traffic. One can also send a mail to trafficpolicehyderabad@yahoo.co.in.
