Special Status to AP not necessary: Purandeshwari

In an indirect reference to Janasena president Pawan Kalyan’s demand of special status to Andhra Pradesh, former Union minister and BJP leader Purandeshwari said on the recommendation of 14th Finance Commission special status would be withdrawn to those States which got this status from March.

Speaking at Tanku in West Godavari district, she asserted that all facilities and benefits are being provided under special package which are part of special status. The responsibility of construction of Polavaram project lies on the Union government and entire expenditure would be borne by it, the BJP leader said, adding that all benefits being given under special status would be stopped now as per the recommendation of 14th Finance Commission. In such situation, the demand of special status to the State is unwarranted, Purandeshwasri said.

Condemning the comment of Pawan Kalyan against Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu, another BJP leader Dara Sambaiah said Venkaiah Naidu was trying to get all the benefits to Andhra Pradesh. Stating that Pawan Kalyan is his best friend, Sambaiah said somebody giving wrong information and suggestions to Pawan Kalyan. The Janasena president has made comments due to misunderstanding, he said. (NSS)
