UP: Special court awards rape accused 7 years prison time

New Delhi: A Court in UP’s Muzaffarnagar has convicted a 26-year-old rape accused in a 2014 rape case and sentenced him to 7 years of prison time for abducting and raping a minor child.

The sentence was awarded by the Special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) court in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar, India Today reports.

Additional District Judge Ram Sudh Singh heading the bench found accused Virender Kumar guilty of the offences under sections 363 (kidnapping) and 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000.

The court also said half of the imposed fine would go to the 15-year-old victim.

According to reports, Kumar had abducted the minor girl from her house in Basayet village on July 7, 2014.

He reportedly abducted and raped her when the minor’s parents were away.
