Special court for ACB cases at Rajahmundry

Hyderabad, January 18: Amidst allegations that the State government is allowing corrupt babus to go scot-free, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Monday promised to give more teeth to the Anti-Corruption Bureau to take stern measures to curb corruption.

“Corruption will not be tolerated at any level in the government. We will fully support the ACB in this regard,” the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister sanctioned a new Special Court for dealing with ACB cases in Rajahmundry and agreed for shifting of an existing court at Hyderabad to Kurnool for convenience of complainants and witnesses.

He promised to provide necessary technical and logistical assistance to the ACB for its effective functioning.

However, it was decided that instead of the market value, the registration value should be taken into account while calculating the Disproportionate Asset (DA) cases.

“The corrupt persons, notwithstanding their position, should be trapped and punished. But we should ensure that innocents are not harassed,” he said.

ACB director general Umesh Kumar briefed the Chief Minister on the work being done by the ACB and brought to his notice certain issues which need to be addressed for expeditious and judicious disposal of cases.

Kiran Kumar Reddy wanted the officials of all the departments to work in close coordination with the ACB to expedite investigations.
