Legislative Affairs Minister T Harish Rao today maintained that Speaker for Telangana State Assembly will be elected unanimously on June 10.
Talking to mediapersons on Assembly premises here, Harish Rao said that efforts to elect Speaker unanimously were being made. Congress leader K Jana Reddy will take oath as pro-tem speaker and ESL Narasimhan as Governor of Telangana State at Raj Bhavan on the morning of June 9.
Narasimhan will address the joint session of legislature on June 11, he said, adding that Telangana Assembly will begin from June 9 and continue for five days till June 13. He said, “We are discussing the issue with other political parties to elicit uniform opinion to elect the speaker. On the first day (June 9) all the elected MLAs of Telangana Assembly will take oath of office and regular Speaker will be from the TRS which is keen on roping in either Koppula Eshwar or Madhusudhana Chary. But there is no clarity yet on Deputy Speaker post”.
Earlier, Harish Rao asked the officials to ensure that the Assembly as well as the Council be made ready for the sessions with all facilities. He also discussed with Assembly Legislature Secretariat on the preparedness for first Telangana Assembly session beginning June 9. Besides, police department is ready with adequate forces in and around the premises of Assembly and Council. Officials informed the minister that all arrangements have been made for the session. Right now, the Telangana Assembly has 119 MLAs representing the ruling TRS, main Opposition Congress, TDP, BJP, MIM and others, including the Left and the YSRCP. (NSS)
