Speaker Assures To Get Rs 200 Crores To Tackle Fluoride Problem In Nalgonda

Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar reportedly assured Nalgonda district Collector Mukthyeshwar Rao that he would talk to the Finance department for allocation of Rs 200 crores to solve the chronic fluoride problem in Nalgonda district.

It may be recalled that the members of House Committee on Wildlife and Environment, led by the Speaker visited the fluoride affected villages in the first half of this month.

The Nalgonda district Collector submitted a Rs 200-crore proposal to the Wild Life and Environment House Committee here on Thursday to solve the Fluoride problem in Nalgonda district. Mukthyeshwar Rao included 14 departments in his proposal. The Committee, headed by Nadendla Manohar, has convened a meeting in the Assembly and discussed the possibilities of solving the menacing problem of fluoride in Nalgonda district.

It is learnt that there were chances of launching a protected water supply scheme at a cost of Rs 73 crores from August 15. Some members of the Committee hailing from Nellore and Prakasham districts also urged the Speaker to put efforts to solve the fluoride problem in Nellore, Prakasham and Mahbubnagar districts. The Speaker has agreed to visit other fluoride affected districts in a phased manner.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, TRS MLA K Taraka Ramarao has demanded that the government extend Rs 500 monthly pension to the fluoride affected persons. He also demanded that the government appoint nodal officers to the fluoride affected 500 villages in Nalgonda district and complete the Nakkalagandi and Dindi projects to provide irrigation water to the three lakh acres in Nalgonda district.

MLAs Balli Durga Prasadarao, Kandula Narayana Reddy, Enugu Ravinder Reddy, MLCs Chukka Ramaiah, Dr K Nageshwar also participated in the meeting. (NSS)
