SP leader urges saints not to immerse idols in Ganga

Varanasi:Senior SP leader Shatrudra Prakash today appealed to saints and seers not to immerse idols in Ganga to prevent it from getting polluted further.

Prakash urged them to follow the High Court order and give up their demands to save the dying river.

He also defended police action on protesters who were opposing ban on immersion of Ganesha idols in Ganga, saying that the security personnel only followed the order of the court.

“Many states have already banned immersion of idols and other religious items in rivers. It is really unfortunate that in Varanasi they are against this order where as in other parts of UP, the ban on immersion of idols is fully effective,” he said in a statement.
