Former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly confirmed that he has received a death threat letter on January 5, through post on his office address. The incident came to light on Monday when he informed the police in Kolkata but did not lodged a formal complaint.
The letter warned him against attending an inter-college cricket meet at the Vidyasagar University in Midnapore on January 19. Ganguly has been invited as chief guest in the final of the Inter-Collge Cricket Tournament jointly organised Vidyasagar University and the District Sports Association on January 19.
Ganguly said to the press that, “Yes I’ve received the letter on January 7 and I’ve informed this to the police and the organisers. Let’s see, nothing has been decided yet but it will be a live show programme and you all will come to know if I go there.”
The Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police (South West Division), Meraj Khalid alleged that he was yet to receive any official complaint from Ganguly’s end.
Ganguly is also the President of Cricket Association of Bengal has not yet decided whether he will attend the scheduled event or not. He said.”Let us see, nothing has been decided yet. You all will come to know if I go there.”
West Midnapore district SP Bharati Ghosh, said that she is unaware of the development. She said.”We have not been informed about this.”
