Soren govt in the dock over BPL list and Kerosene quota

Ranchi, March 04: The Jharkhand government extended survey of people under the BPL category even as the opposition today claimed irregularities in distribution of BPL cards and kerosene to the poor.

“The survey of BPL has been extended. The last date was February 28,” Deputy Chief Minister and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Raghuvar Das informed the assembly. His reply came when Speaker C P Singh and several opposition MLAs expressed concern over ‘irregularities’ in the BPL lists, even in cities.

Jharkhand Janadhikar Manch MLA Bandhu Tirkey, who is supporting the government from outside, asked why such survey was not being carried out to include forest dwellers.

Soon after Shibu Soren took over charge, he announced a fresh survey of BPL following allegations of irregularities.

The government found itself in an embarrassing situation when CPI (ML-Liberation) MLA Vinod Kumar Singh drew the attention of a notice issued by the Giridih administration allegedly stating that only three liters of kerosene could be given to each BPL household despite Food Processing Minister Barkuar Gagrai’s reply to a starred question mentioning distribution of four litres to each BPL family residing in villages.

“We will review it. Action will be taken if any irregularity is found (in this regard),” the Parliamentary Affairs Minister said.
