Sony’s image sensor plant in southern Japan to remain closed

Tokyo : In the wake of two powerful earthquakes hitting the south-western island of Kyushu in Japan last week, Electronics giant Sony Corp has said that production at its image sensor plant in southern Japan’s Kumamoto would remain suspended.

However, operations at its image sensor plants in Nagasaki and Oita fully resumed on Monday, the company said in a statement.

On Saturday, a magnitude of 7.3 quake struck close to the city of Kumamoto, which had been hit by a magnitude-6.4 quake on Thursday night.

Atleast 42 people were killed and more than 1,000 people were injured in the widespread damage of buildings, houses, roads and bridges. (ANI)
