Sons raped minor daughters with Mother’s backing

In a shocking incident, two brothers, aged 19 and 21 raped their two minor sisters. And what is more chilling is that their 53-year-old mother was aware of the trauma and was in fact backing her sons.

The incident took place in Wadala truck terminal in Mumbai’s Sion area where the accused brothers lived in a 12×12 (144 sq ft) slum tenement with their mother and two sisters.

According to police, they allegedly take turns to rape their sisters. And every time when the girls complain to the mother, she would allegedly bang them and burn them for refusing to act in accordance with their brothers’ demands.
The elder sister was first raped for four years ago when she was 12 and the accused brothers were 15 and 19 years old.

When she spoke about her ordeal to her mother, she was completely shocked that her mother was aware of it and threatened her of dire consequences if she disclose about the abuse to anyone.

“Fearing that the girl would talk about her ordeal, the mother withdrew her from her school two years ago,” said a police official.

According to officer, two months ago, the brothers allegedly started abusing the younger sister too.
The younger sister, all of 11, didn’t understand what was happening and had a word with her elder sister and her mother. The mother issued the same threats to her too and stopped sending her to school as well.

“We have found burn injuries on the girls’ cheeks and hands. They told us that their mother had inflicted the burns on them when they protested against being raped by their brothers,” an officer from Wadala Truck Terminal police station said.

The officer said: “The elder sister was being subjected to the abuse for nearly four years, while the younger one was targeted two months ago. All this used to happen right under their mother’s nose who used to sleep calmly next to them.”

On Monday, April 20, the younger sister informed a local social worker named Vahida about their ordeal and finally the mother and the brothers were nabbed on April 22.

A case under section 376 of Indian Penal Code (rape) has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act against the two brothers. The mother has been booked for abetting the crime.
