Kadapa, July 09: YS Jagan Mohan Reddy was hunted out from Congress over his ‘odarpu yatra’ though he and other members of the family of late YS Rajasekhara Reddy had a lot of respect for the high command, Jagan’s mother and MLA YS Vijayalakshmi alleged today.
“Jagan and I had met Congress president Sonia Gandhi to seek her permission for ‘odarpu yatra’. We told her about the need to continue it. But she did not accede to our request and spoke in such a way that hurt me. We had to leave Congress,” said Vijayalakshmi, the honorary president of YSR Congress, at the party’s first plenary which began at Idupulapaya, the YSR family estate, in Kadapa district.
Alleging that Congress tried to split the YSR family for political gains, she said she and her son had to quit the party due to unavoidable circumstances.
The Congress high command tried to lower the image of YSR and downplay the schemes launched by him, she alleged.
It was YSR who single-handedly brought the Congress back to power in 2009 elections, Vijayalakshmi said.
Assuring that Jagan, who was groomed by his father in all aspects of public life, would strive for the effective implementation of welfare schemes of YSR’s such as ‘Jalayagnam’ (irrigation mission), Rajeev Arogyasree health scheme, students’ fee reimbursement, etc, Vijayalakshmi appealed to the party activists and the people to bless him.
