Sonia sent good wishes to AP Govt.

Hyderabad, July 12: All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Sonia Gandhi has commended Andhra Pradesh government and sent her good wishes for celebrating the anniversary of Vijayanagar Emperor Krishnadevaraya’s coronation.

In her message, she said ”I am delighted that the Government of Andhra Pradesh is celebrating the 500th anniversary of the coronation of Sri Krishnadevaraya, a truly outstanding figure of Indian history”.

We are all familiar with the glory that was the Vijayanagara empire, a glory and grandeur that can still be seen so majestically at Hampi and in places like Chandragiri. His was an empire noted for unwavering respect for all religions and languages, an empire noted for its nuemerous contributions to music, poetry, literature and other fine Arts. His administration was lso marked by his deep concern for the welfare of the people and his constant endeavours to redress their grievances”, she said.

Sri Krishnadevaraya had ensured that his was an empire known to history not only for its political achievements, but also for cultural accomplishments, she said.

“The 500th anniversary of his coronation is an occasion for recalling this most distinguished personality whose name continues to shine and inspire succeeding generations”, she said.

Ms Gandhi who sent the message to State Information and Cultural Minister Dr J Geetha Reddy, however expressed her inability to participate in the closing function. ”Much as I would have liked to attend the programmes, I regret my inability to do so owing to pressing and unavoidable engangements during that period”, she said.
