Sonia says only education can develop India

All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi today said only education can take the country on the path of development. “It is only education that can bring advancement in the nation,” Ms Gandhi said after laying foundation stone for the strengthening and broadening of the two-phase Lucknow-Allahabad national highway during the first day of her two-day visit to her Parliamentary constituency Rai Bareli.

To promote education, the UPA has decided to open model schools in every block, she added. The Congress president informed that the Centre aims to open 148 model schools in the state. Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi dreamt to have a women university in Rae Bareli, but it could not be fulfilled, she said. The Human Resource Development Ministry has given its nod for a women’s college. Ms Gandhi said the Centre was making all efforts to create world class infrastructure in the country. She also announced several projects for her Parliamentary constituency, including two national highways 231 and 232 between Rae Bareli-Jaipur and Ambedkar Nagar to Banda respectively. UNI
