Sonia, Rahul express grief on Muzaffarnagar train accident

New Delhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Saturday expressed shock and pain at the derailment of the Puri-Haridwar Kalinga Utkal Express in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar, which left at least 13 persons dead.

Expressing her deep concern on the growing number of train accidents and railway safety, she urged the Railways and state government to take adequate and immediate relief and rescue measures.

Gandhi also hoped that a proper investigation would be conducted to ensure full accountability.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi also expressed his grief.

“Shocked to know about the unfortunate accident of Utkal Express in Muzaffarnagar. My thoughts with the families who lost their loved ones,” said a tweet from his official handle.

At least 13 persons died and several were injured, some critically, when six coaches of the Haridwar-bound Kalinga Utkal Express derailed at Khatauli, 24 km from Muzaffarnagar on Saturday evening, officials said.
