Kochi, September 26: As many as 6,000 delegates will participate in the National Conference of the Congress party’s trade union wing the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), in which All India Congress Committee(AICC) President and United Progressive Alliance(UPA) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and General Secretary Rahul Gandhi will address the four-day plenary session from October nine. Ms Gandhi will inaugurate the delegates’ meeting on October 10 and Mr Rahul will open an international seminar on ‘World Economy slowdown and its effect on Labour market’ on October 12. Enumertaing the details of the Conference, which is held for the first time in Kerala, INTUC Kerala unit President R Chandrashekaran said nine Central Ministers, including Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Defence Minister A K Antony, Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi, Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and Labour Minister Mallikarjun Kharge would be attending different sessions of the Conference.
In the 29th plenary session, All India INTUC President and other office-bearers would also be elected. The Conference would have meeting of the Industrial Federations and in the delgates’ meeting, discussions would centre around the need to amend the existing labour laws and the necessity for incorporating new laws in the labour sector. Mr Chandrashekaran said representatives of the International Labour Organisation(ILO)and International Trade Union Congress (ITUC) would address the delegates. Forty foreign delegates from 13 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Italy, Pakistan, Bengladesh, Nepal, Ukraine and Japan would attend the Conference. A logo of the Conference would be released in a function on September 29 here, he added.
