NEW DELHI: UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi is likely to join the crucial mahagatbandhan (grand alliance) on 10 December, a day before the assembly election results are out.
Results of the assembly elections being held in five states of Telangana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram will be held on December 11.
Congress party president Rahul Gandhi is also certain to join the meeting scheduled for 3.30 p.m. at Parliament House Annexe in Delhi.
According to media reports, the proposed meeting of non-BJP parties called by TDP president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, seen as an effort to prepare an agenda to cobble up Opposition strength for the 2019 elections.
The SP-BSP-Congress-Rashtriya Lok Dal tie-up cut into a major chunk of the saffron party and its allies tally 2019 Lok Sabha elections. While Mayawati’s BSP is keeping the Opposition guessing on attending the meeting.
The Hindu quoted a senior Congress leader that, “There is no word yet from the BSP on whether Mayawati ji will come herself or she will depute Satish Chandra Misra to represent her. We will reach out to them and hope for the best.”
