Mumbai, June 29: UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi will inaugurate the much-awaited Bandra-Worli sea link on June 30.
The Rs 1,634 crore, 4.7 km Bandra-Worli Sea Link will connect the suburban Bandra with Worli on the south here.
A glittering ceremony will be held during the inauguration ceremony. The cable-supported 8-lane bridge will be beamed up by the laser show tomorrow.
Completed after 10 years, the bridge will be the country’s first-ever open sea link.
After opening of this sea link, the travel time will reduce to barely 6-8 minutes. It will also entail savings in vehicular operating costs (VOC) of over one billion rupees per annum.
126 metres tall or equivalent to a 43-storeyed building bridge is going to become a tourist spot as the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) intends to start a ferry trip to the sea link from Bandra-Kurla Complex after its opened this month.
BEST’s Chairman Dilip Patel said, “We have planned an open deck bus tour of the bridge for the citizens. The ferry would start from one of the business hub’s in the city-Bandra-Kurla Complex to Worli Sea Face and can accommodate nearly 38 to 40 passengers and would cost them Rs 15-20″.
