Sonia gives a patient hearing to Jagan

New Delhi, June 30: Kapada MP and late YSR’s heir-apparent YS Jagan Mohan Reddy met Congress president Sonia Gandhi along with his mother and sister here on Monday evening.

The meeting that took place at Sonia’s residence, 10 Janpath, lasted for nearly 40 minutes.

Though a subdued Jagan and family refused to talk to the media after the meeting, it was understood that he came to request the Congress president to allow him to resume his Odarpu Yatra and also discuss “some political issues of the state’’.

Jagan’s “sentimental tour” plan of Andhra Pradesh mounted in the memory of his late father was derailed in the last week of May after trouble broke out in Warangal.

Jagan’s repeated attempts to resume the yatra have been thwarted by the Congress leadership which asked him to call off the tour. This is his second visit to New Delhi. It’s been undertaken to convince the Congress high command to allow him to continue his yatra to console the kin of those who had committed suicide in the aftermath of YSR’s tragic death.

According to sources close to Jagan, he wants to resume his yatra on June 8- YSR’s first birth anniversary.

He plans to go to Srikakulam district as part of the yatra.

The Congress leadership which has given him enough signals not to chart a personal political course, independent of the party, seems to be losing patience with his adamant attitude.

The Congress president, in fact, refused to grant him an audience when he came down last time to give his version of the story. But with his mother and YSR’s widow writing to Sonia Gandhi for an appointment, 10 Janpath had little option but to accommodate them.
