New Delhi: As President Pranab Mukherjee is close to complete his term in July, Sonia Gandhi is meeting several opposition leaders to arrive at a consensus over presidential polls. She met National Conference leader Omar Abdullah on Wednesday and spoke to SP’s Mulayam Singh as well as RJD chief Lalu Prasad over the telephone.
According to the reports, she will meet BSP Mayawati, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and DMK leader M.K. Stalin. She has already met JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar, CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury, NCP’s Sharad Pawar and the Indian Union Muslim League leader P.K. Kunhalikutty, reported DC.
The Congress has decided to “act as the building block for various parties to come together” in this “battle of ideologies”, and the party thinks that “it is a historic responsibility”.
Meanwhile, BJP is certain of the victory, expecting support from INLD, YSR Congress and AIADMK according to a report of TOI.
