A day after the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar handed over the Bodh Gaya serial blasts case probe to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde will visit the blasts site on Wednesday.
According to reports, both Shinde and Sonia will be given the first-hand information about the serial bomb explosions and the progress made so far by the agencies probing the case.
“Shinde, who will be accompanied by top officials of his ministry, will also meet officials of investigating agencies during his visit to Bodh Gaya,” a top police official said ahead of their arrival here.
This will be the first visit by any Union Minister to the revered Mahabodhi Temple- the holy Buddhist shrine-which was targeted by series of explosions on Sunday.
BJP president Rajnath Singh along with senior party leaders Arun Jaitley and Ravi Shankar Prasad visited Bodh Gaya Tuesday.
The Bodh Gaya temple is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is where the Buddha, who was born in neighbouring Nepal, attained enlightenment around 2,500 years ago.
