Hyderabad: UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi is more influential than Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi even today. She can play a better role in influencing the voters than both. This was proved during Karnataka assembly elections. Both Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi run massive campaigns in favour of their respective parties as star campaigners. Both stayed in Karnataka for several days but UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi addressed a public meeting in one area and the area was secured by Congress.
According to sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed election rallies at 21 places while Rahul Gandhi addressed election rallies at 20 places. In the places where Modi addressed the rallies, BJP won 12 seats, while at the places where Rahul Gandhi run the campaign, Congress could grab 9 seats.
Sonia Gandhi performed better than both. Sonia Gandhi addressed a rally in Bijapur and Congress won 5 seats there, while BJP won only one seat.
Congress leaders believe that had Sonia Gandhi visited other areas of the state also the results would have been different.
