New Delhi: Having already sounded the poll bugle in Uttar Pradesh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi will today hold a roadshow in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency, Varanasi.
Gandhi will offer prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath temple after leading the roadshow organised by the party.
The Congress president will also meet those who are associated with the cleaning of river Ganges. She is also expected to corner Prime Minister Modi in his constituency by raising this issue.
Sheila Dikshit, the party’s chief ministerial candidate, had yesterday said Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Raj Babbar and senior leaders such as Ghulam Nabi Azad, Salman Khurshid, Sriprakash Jaiswal, Pramod Tiwari, Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Zafar Ali, Sanjay Singh, Rana Goswami, Rajesh Mishra, Ajay Rai, Rajeshpati Tripathi etc will take part in the roadshow.
The roadshow is a part of the party’s ’27 saal, UP Behaal’ campaign for Uttar Pradesh.
The politically crucial Uttar Pradesh will go to polls in early 2017.
In the 2012 assembly elections, the Samajwadi Party secured a simple majority in the 403-member assembly, winning 224 seats with the BSP and BJP bagging 80 and 47 seats respectively. (ANI)
