Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi pay tributes to Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary

Congress president Sonia Gandhi, along with her son Rahul Gandhi and daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, on Thursday paid tributes to her late husband and former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 24th death anniversary.

Priyanka’s husband Robert Vadra also paid his tributes at the former prime minister’s memorial ‘Veer Bhumi’ in New Delhi.

Senior Congress leaders Ajay Maken and PC Chacko also paid their homage to Rajiv Gandhi.

Rajiv Gandhi, who was the youngest Prime Minister of India when he assumed office on October 31, 1984, following the assassination of his mother Indira Gandhi, soon called for elections and won 404 of the 485 seats that were contested.

But, he became the victim of a suicide bomber in Tamil Nadu’s Siriperambudur in 1991 where he had gone for a poll campaign.

In his memory, May 21 is observed as Anti-Terrorism day in India.
