Sonia behind Rajiv’s assassination: Swamy

Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy in an interview with the Asian Tribune raised his suspicion on Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s role in Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination because of her sympathy with the LTTE.

“The UPA government is driven by Ms Sonia Gandhi. According to me she is a suspect in Rajiv’s assassination and because of her past association with the Habash group of Palestinians, who had trained the LTTE first; she has continuing sympathy with the LTTE cause. Hence the explanation for India’s stand,” he said.

Talking about the US moved resolution, he said, “It is a toothless insipid and one sided resolution fit for the wastepaper basket.”

When asked if he thought India’s stand was correct in supporting the US he said, “Obviously not since the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh wrote a letter to Sri Lanka President in an apologetic tone.”

On being questioned what his take was on the terrorism in Sri Lanka, which is believed to have started after the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi invited the Lankan Tamil youths to the country, trained and armed them to fight against the Sri Lankan government, he said, “That was done in the context of Sinhala majority welching on agreements signed with Tamil leaders like Chelvanayagam and the horrible massacres of Tamils in July 1983. We in India have not forgotten the racists remarks of President Jayawardene to the London Economist made then.”
