Claiming that the Congress has kept its promise of giving statehood to Telangana region, Telangana Congress Committee President Ponnala Lakshmaiah today said that the party Chief, Sonia Gandhi will address a public meeting in Karimnagar on April 16. ‘We are making all arrangements for the program to be attended by leaders and activists’, he said adding that the congress will come to power in the new State of Telangana. People are aware that Sonia has given the statehood despite all odds and will vote in favor of the Congress, Ponnala maintained. The meeting will sure give a clarion call to people of the region to vote in favor of the Congress which kept its promise of carving out Telangana state from Andhra Pradesh, he said.
It may be noted that Sonia Gandhi earlier made a promise on forming Telangana State from the same district in 2009. Now after carving out the state despite all odds, the AICC Chief is expected to address the people in the same district.
Ponnala alleged that some parties are making false promises for political gains. However the people will teach them a lesson, he said. Lakshmaiah also ridiculed the parties for trying to lure the electors. He alleged that the leaders were playing the BC card, but will sure bite the dust in the elections to come. It is the Congress that keeps the promises made, but other parties will swiftly forget, he said adding that “Ravana” cannot become “Rama” by greasing his face.
On discontent soaring high in the party, Lakshmaiah admitted that there is a sort of discontent among the leaders for denying the tickets. Those leaders who could not get tickets will sure be accommodated either in the party affairs or in the Government on coming to power, he said. ‘We are convincing them to fall in line’ he said adding that the party will not ignore their services. It is the Congress party which has given 32 seats to BCs this time and no other party could dare in such a way, Lakshmaiah stated. He made it clear that the rebels should withdraw from the seats that are allocated to the CPI as part of poll time alliance.
‘We will set up a committee to look into the problems of Muslim minorities in the state on coming to power’, he said. Though earlier promised, the TRS failed to give 12 per cent of seats to minorities for the general elections, he criticized.
FLAYS KCR
The Telangana Congress Chief criticized that the TRS given tickets to the leaders who opposed Telangana movement. He accused KCR of accommodating Konda Surekha and her husband K Murali and others who belittled the Telangana movement. He also found fault with the TRS for denying a ticket to family members of Telangana Martyrs. While expressing surprise, Lakshmaiah sought to know why KCR refused to give a ticket to one such member instead of giving it to his daughter K Kavitha from Nizamabad. This can be surely attributed to double talk of KCR who should answer to the people of the region, he said.(NSS)
