Known to speak her mind, Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor was mercilessly trolled after she share her take on abrogation of Article 370.
The ‘Neerja’ actress, who has always been very vocal about issues, in an interview with BBC, reacted, when asked on the nullification of Article 370.
Talking about the Kashmir issue, Sonam, in the video says, “So for me now, I think it’s better to keep quiet and let this pass, because this too should pass… and I think our countries were one country 70 years ago, and the fact that there is so much divisive politics at play is really heartbreaking.”
Further adding, “I think it’s very complicated and I don’t understand it as much because there is so much contrary news everywhere so I don’t really know what the truth is. I believe in having peaceful discourse and understanding what’s going on. So when I have the complete information is when I think I can give an opinion.”
The Zoya Factor actress also clarified how she hopes there is a peaceful way of working things out. “Kashmir is a beautiful place and it has been under so much duress. I don’t know who is right in this… I don’t think they themselves know who is right.”
Sonam goes on to say that her family has its roots in Pakistan.
“I am half-Sindhi and Half-Peshawari, so it’s heartbreaking to see that part of my culture is something that I can’t explore as well because of that [the conflict],” says Sonam.
However, after being trolled, she took to Twitter to give it back to haters for misinterpreting her statements.
She wrote, “Guys please calm down.. and get a life. Twisting, misinterpreting and understanding what you want from what someone has to say isn’t a reflection on the person who says it but on you. So self reflect and see who you are and hopefully get a job.”
