Some Engineering colleges have no takers

After the just concluded Eamcet counseling, nine engineering colleges in Andhra Pradesh and one in Telangana state have found no takers, which means 10 engineering colleges were left with zero admissions, according to the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE).

At the end of the first phase of counseling, less than half of the colleges in Telangana managed to fill their entire quota.

Prof. L. Venu-gopal Reddy, Chairman of AP State Council of Higher Education said dates of the second phase of counselling would be decided in next to no time. Out of 315, only 199 engineering colleges in Telangana could participate in the first phase of counselling, as the rest had not been granted approval by JNTU.

Venugopal Reddy also said that only 103 colleges from both states have recorded 100 percent admissions, of which, 38 colleges are from AP and 65 from Telangana.

With so many seats remaining unfilled, no decision has yet been taken on second phase of counselling. “The Council is considering the option of consulting the Supreme Court if need be,” Reddy said, since the Supreme Court had ordered completion of admissions by end of August.

Telangana SCHE chairman Prof. T. Papi Reddy had said that the SC would have to be approached for conducting the second phase counselling. “We will consult the legal counsel before taking a decision just to be on the safe side. We have also informed the SC about Category B admissions,” he said.
