As Prime Minister Narendra Modi pressed for a lasting solution to Kashmir problem, hardline Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Monday said it lies in India adhering to the United Nations resolution.
“…Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Geelani said for the lasting solution of Jammu and Kashmir dispute, the Indian state must shun state violence and uphold international law, respect and adhere UN charter and especially the UN resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir,” a spokesman of the Hurriyat said.
“By fulfilling its promises and obligations towards the people of Jammu and Kashmir, we understand the universal principle of ‘right to self-determination’ is the only road through which peace can be achieved in Jammu and Kashmir,” the spokesman added.
Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief Aasiya Andrabi said people must not pay heed to the “useless activities” of mainstream politicians of Kashmir.
“All they want is power and nothing else,” she said. Andrabi said Modi’s response to these pro-India politicians explains their “uselessness” with regard to resolution of Kashmir issue.
