Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday said the soldiers are more important than the weapons that they carry.
“Army welfare is one of the most important aspects, which I am tackling. I believe that more than armament, I am not saying that armament is not important, but the person behind the armament is the stronger defence for the country,” he said in Panaji.
Parrikar also said that proper mechanism was required to look into lack of man-management skills that lead to suicides in armed forces.
He vouched for better support to soldiers by providing them with proper family accommodation, which can solve the problem of isolation.
“It is man-management issue. It has to be resolved in two-three ways. One is proper counseling, the others are issues of service personnel have to be addressed, quick addressal mechanism is one of the solutions, third, tribunals and informal arrangements to solve the problems,” said Parrikar. (ANI)
